The very first flights with planning

The grass is growing!

Kesteven Model Flyers :- The Beginning………

In the spring of 2004 five model flying enthusiasts got together with a view to setting up their own club. The founder members are :-

Terry Munton
Phil Smith
Robin Briggs-Price
Mark Wingad
Glen Matchet

It’s down to Terry’s efforts in finding suitable land where the club could exist. After sorting out the planning permission and negotiating land rent, temporary planning was granted for one year with full permission granted in June 2005. At this stage all the initial funding came from the five founding members in the form of interest free loans, to be paid back when feasible..

During our first year we gained 33 members but as you can see from the early photographs the grass was not in the best condition. We eventually applied 6 more bags of more suitable seed and the difference is clear to see, with a flying site that is still not perfect but is getting there.

Think we need to put some more seed down.

In the winter of 2005 a steel shipping container was purchased to provide much needed shelter from the cold and wind for the members.

Now it looks good

The true test came at the start of 2006. We were a bit nervous regarding membership take-up but this was unfounded. We are now one of the leading clubs in the area, with a solid membership of all round flyers, where help and advice, along with a friendly atmosphere, makes flying a very pleasurable experience, which was the main aims of setting up the club

Onwards and upwards

Today Kesteven Model Flyers are looking at enhancing the conditions still further, a very important part of this is listening to the views and aspirations of the members, they are after all the life blood of any successful club. Also essential is our role in the local community and that is why we have already visited the local school where the children built BMFA darts over a period of three sessions, successfully flying them at the local village hall in the final session. More of this is in the planning stage, along with static displays at several local village fetes and in July we have been asked to have at a stand at Lincoln City Football Club’s open day, we are also attending this years Waddington Air show.
